Electric Service & Safety : : Outages

Members who call the cooperative for an outage caused by the members' own equipment may be charged a fee for the service call. Therefore, take a few minutes to determine if the problem is with Todd-Wadena's equipment (Our Side) or with your electrical equipment (Your Side).

What to do in case of a widespread outage:
Power outages lasting more than a couple of hours are rare but storms can cause severe and widespread damage. You and your family will 'weather the storm' safely and more comfortably if you prepare ahead.

Stay informed. Keep a battery-operated radio handy for information.
Know where to find emergency items: flashlight, first aid kit, medicine, fire extinguisher and important telephone numbers.

Keep warm safely in cold weather. Use backup heat sources properly. Portable fuel-burning heaters should be used as directed and only in well-ventilated areas. Generator must be used in strict accordance to manufacturer's instructions to avoid serous injury to the user and/or lineworkers. If necessary, seek alternative shelter to avoid hypothermia.

Life support equipment
Please call the cooperative office to inform us if there is a medical or other critical need for electricity at your home or business. To the extend possible, priority will be given to these situations. However, electric power must be restored to transmission lines and substations before it can feed distribution and secondary lines for individual residences.

Do call the cooperative office to report an outage. If you receive a recorded message, follow the instructions given to report an emergency. Make sure th person you talk to knows you have a medical situation.
