Sophomores and Juniors -
See our nation's Capitol City - all expenses paid!

Each February, Todd-Wadena conducts a contest to select two high school students to attend a 5-day, all-expense-paid trip to Washington, DC in June. The winners travel with other Minnesota teens, joining about 1,500 others during National Youth Tour Days at the Capitol City. Participants see the national monuments and Arlington Cemetery, visit legislators at the Capitol, see a major theatre production and take a cruise on the Potomac River.

The contest is open to sophomores and juniors from our local school districts. To participate, students must submit a one page, type-written essay, responding to this question: How will the production or use of energy change in this country over the next couple of decades? Essays are ranked by the quality of the writing and reasoning. Students with highest ranking essays are selected for the second part of the contest - the interviews. A team of three independent judges determine the two winners, basing their decisions on written and verbal responses during the brief interviews.

Essays may be submitted by mail fax (218-631-4188) or email (todd-wad@toddwadena.coop) and must be received by Friday, Feb. 26. For more information, contact the cooperative office by email or by phone at 631-3120 or 800-321-8932.

The 2009 Youth Tour winners were Paige Borst, Bertha-Hewitt and Taylor Schwartz, Sebeka
